Launch a NewsHour

NewsHour is an interactive program for young adults interested in learning about their world by watching international news. By providing a safe and open environment in which to ask questions, express feelings, and voice opinions about the news, we believe young people's mind are stimulated in a way that keeps them interested and engaged. Adults facilitate the discussion by providing facts and clarification and maintaining the very important feeling of safety and openness, but are prohibiting from becoming part of the discussion themselves.

Our goal is to create responsible future leaders, journalist, and teachers who are able to listen, learn, and communicate effectively and respectfully with people from different cultures and classes.

Currently we are expanding NewsHour to high schools in the US and schools in other developing nations by partnering with non-profits and NGOs. If you are interested in launching a NewsHour of your own and becoming part of our fast growing global network, we are extremely excited to help you do so. The program is not resource heavy which makes starting it easy. Making it a success, however, means creating a stimulating discussion among the young people interested in discussing the news. To help you make your NewsHour a success we have created a straightforward Three Step Launch Plan.

Step 1: Download our starter documents Launch NewsHour and Facilitator Guidelines

You need JavaScript enabled to view it to discuss your NewsHour schedule, rules, and choice of facilitator. Step 3: Connect the global network through Facebook and Skype. The Teach on the Beach team will coordinate times for you to Skype with our program in Ghana and hopefully other developing nations very soon.
