Bonners on the Beach

Meet Joanne and Gentry! They were the first Bonners on the ground in Busua, Ghana - a village in the Bonner Global Village Network. Joanna met Teach on the Beach as Emory & Henry's Bonner Congress Representative in 2011. Seven months later, she and her good friend Gentry landed in Accra! Together they made a big impact by teaching in local schools, tutoring at our after school program, participating in NewsHour discussions, and contributing to specific projects like building our basketball court and painting our house. They also had a lot of adventures exploring Busua's exotic beach - swimming out to the island, learning to surf, and playing with turtles - and even visiting a rainforest!

Our future goals for Bonners include keeping you as busy and engaged as Joanna and Gentry, but to also begin integrating the Bonner Global Village's "Global Engagement Curriculum". We believe the combination of the Global Village curriculum and the absorbing Teach on the Beach experience will provide you a service experience that will translate to success back home at your service site as well as in your academic and professional pursuits. We have now hosted a dozen Bonners and Bonner Love is a recognized slogan in our facility.
